JÓZEF ROBAKOWSKI
PHOTO-ACTIONS

t – 1/100, t – 1/50, t – 1/10, 1976

This work from the Photo-actions series is an example of the artist’s interest in the conditions of human perception and the possibilities of the photographic record. In a sequence of three photographs, the artist demonstrates differences between the perception of reality through the eye and its record through the lens of the camera. By manipulating the exposure time of particular sequences, he records subsequent phases of an event, invisible to the naked eye.

Three Poses, 1975

The work was made with the use of a self-timer with several-meter-long cable that made it possible to take pictures from various angles and greater distance. During the action in  Remont Gallery in Warsaw the artist arranged a situation where various people took picture of themselves.
