Sandboxes, 2005
Photo installation, series os seven mini books, 10 x 7cm
The installation consists of hundreds on photographs featuring deserted and neglected sandpits, photographed form above, as if from a balcony. All photos have been gathered and bound as small booklets, placed amidst the volumes of judicl annuals in the University Library.
Each booklet is an individual collection of stop-motion photographs devoted to a single box and single micro-event, when browsed quicly, it features a running child, a wailing sog or changing light. The movement itself brings to mind the early films of the 19th century, while the bird’s-eye perspective creates the feeling of distance, like peeping into the pictures of elusive past hidden in the shelves of the library.
