HYPOTHETICAL CHECKPOINT CHARLIE

Hypothetical Checkpoint Charlie, 1987

The several-element work is a kind of deconstruction of the famous border crossing. The artist applied the procedures developed in the previous decade for transforming photographs by means of drawing. The starting point was a photograph of the border crossing between East and West Berlin. In the following drawings, the projection of the buildings is subjected to further transformations. By means of mathematical calculations and geometric transformations, it is reduced to an abstract grid of straight lines.
