ANDRZEJ DŁUŻNIEWSKI
22 FIGURATIVE PICTURES

22 Figurative Pictures, 1979, 22 photographs of various size on canvas, Muzeum Chełmskie, Chełm; MOCAK Museum of Contemporary Art in Kraków

22 Figurative Pictures is a work comprising 22 photographs of various formats, showing Andrzej Dłużniewski manipulating pieces of wood of various lengths serving as a painting frame. The artist continued and expounded here his on concept of the ‘absent image’ and the ‘geometric ballet’, initiated in the Iconograms drawing series (1973–1974), where he manipulate a rectangular frame — the physical boundary of a nonexistent painting.
