installation
National Opera, Place de la Monnaie, Brussels
The project, situated in Place de la Monnaie Square, found its location in the architectural surroundings in which historical tissue blends with modern architecture of the commercial and administrative centre of the city. The Neoclassical facade of the Opera was screened by a red, velvet curtain. It was installed on the exterior, making the internal accessible in the external space; it uncovered by covering. The curtain which hid the entrance to the Opera simultaneusly gave one the impression of participating in an opera spectale and abolished the border line between the closed space of the biulging and the open space of the square, pulsating with life. Moreover, one was not absolutely certain on which side of the curtain the spectacle was taking place.
